…. this artist imagination is reminiscent of a more fashion-orietnated Gregory Crewson, or a darker Tim Walker.
To gaze through his work is to wonder along a bewitching path of deftly positioned historic waxworks, frozen with varying emotions in moments of symbolic gesture with magnificent objects

Peter Kemp is an absolutely fantastic photographer who builds visual stories out of fashionable life scenes.
The photos that he takes are charged with glamour and mystery that gives the viewer a very particular feel.
Keep in mind, the people in these photos are real people and not dummies!

Here’s some references of things I’ve noted inspiration from in 2011: ……… also in a more general way by the following, in a random order:

Vintage styled photography collection from dutch photographer Peter Kemp. With a variation of seven outfits showcased and two models we see several examples of the old fashion princeable of the stiff upper lip, and the male seems more prominent and well held in this piece, a sign of the times Kemp is trying to portray. Peter started to work creatively with drawings on a personal level, then developed this into photography, he pays attention to detail when working on set, items in this series are very few and particular. One of the best images here … but find more on his site

Peter Kemp (Delf, Holanda, 1960)

Practical Photoshop – august 2011

This Peter Kemp collection of fashion photography captures some surreal situations that are audibly awkward.
Featuring models dressed in vintage period clothing, each picture seems to vibrate with an uneasy tension that is completely intentional on the artist’s part.
What is most unforgettable about these pictures, however, is that every one communicates of a sense of being askew in some way.
With retro textures and tones mixed with very awkward and at times risque subject matter, this Peter Kemp collection is one that is impossible to view neutrally.

Trendhunter FashionIt is extremely difficult to decipher where reality or photography begins and illustration or painting ends, and vice versa in Peter Kemp’s artistry.
The models fluctuate between being irresistibly smooth and perfectly rendered to being adorned with strokes of paint in their carefully imagined environments.
The possibilities are endless with this enigmatic style, but clearly Kemp uses his imagination to select only the very best scenes… such as the ones depicted here.
